This summer, we had the absolute pleasure of taking 30 children from our Fast58 Summer Project on a memorable trip to Ramsgate Beach. Each year, we strive to make our holiday camps as enriching as possible, and this trip was a perfect way to wrap up the season. For many of the children, this was a brand-new experience – some had never even been to the beach before, making the day even more special.
Sun, Sand, and So Much Fun
From the moment we arrived, it was clear this day would be one for the books. The kids quickly took to the sand, playing games, building sandcastles, and chasing each other along the shore. The sound of laughter filled the air as they ran into the waves for a swim, many of them experiencing the thrill of the sea for the very first time. It was heartwarming to see the joy on their faces as they splashed around, discovering the beach’s beauty.
Sharing Chips, Making Memories
No trip to the seaside is complete without a snack, and in true British fashion, we made sure to grab some chips to share! The children gathered in small groups, sitting on the sand and chatting away while enjoying the crispy treat. There was something magical about watching them bond over something so simple – it was more than just a meal, it was a moment of connection, laughter, and new friendships.
A Special Opportunity
For most of these kids, this was their only chance to visit the beach this year, and for some, it was their very first trip ever. Watching them explore and embrace every part of the day reminded us why these summer projects are so important. It’s not just about giving them a break from their everyday routines – it’s about giving them experiences that open their eyes to new possibilities, new adventures, and new joys.

We couldn’t have made this happen without the incredible support from Southwark, whose funding allows us to create these invaluable opportunities for the children in our community. Each summer, we’re able to provide camps that help the kids learn, grow, and most importantly, have fun. This beach trip was the cherry on top, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s adventure!

Year after year Deborah and Sara have made school holidays an incredible time for these children and without them, this project would not run. The dedication they give to these children is unmatched and so we want to say a special thank you for their hard work, love and dedication to this project over the years.
The smiles, laughter, and memories from Ramsgate Beach will stay with these children for years to come – and they certainly left an imprint on our hearts too.
